Where the facts come from, what happens when we get one wrong, how often pages are refreshed, and how this content is produced.

Independence

We accept no payment for placement, no sponsored picks, and no free product. A brand cannot buy a position on this site, cannot review a page before it publishes, and cannot have a negative line removed. We earn affiliate commission on some links and that is disclosed in full, including the evidence that it does not drive the recommendations.

Sourcing standard

Every factual claim on this site traces to one of three places, and to nothing else:

  • A manufacturer’s own published specification, linked from the product entry and dated to when we read it.
  • A published standard, named specifically rather than gestured at, such as ASTM F2040 or CE EN 1077.
  • The live price layer, which is fetched from the retailer and carries the date it was last verified.

We do not copy figures from other publishers’ comparison tables, and we do not fill a gap with a plausible number. Where a maker does not publish a figure, the page says “Not published” and the scoring axis that would have used it is dropped. The method is published in full.

What we never publish

  • Claims of testing we did not do. No “in our testing”, no test lab, no owned units, no number of products tested.
  • Credentials we do not hold. No implied instructors, patrol experience, boot fitters or medical review.
  • Reviews, testimonials or star ratings. We hold no first-party review data. There are no user reviews on this site and no review markup in its structured data.
  • Prices from memory. Only the live price layer, or nothing.

Corrections

We will get things wrong. Model years change, brands revise size charts, and products are discontinued without notice. When we find an error, or you tell us about one:

  • The page is corrected as soon as we can verify the right figure.
  • The correction is noted on the page with a date rather than silently edited, wherever the error could have changed a reader’s decision.
  • The page’s last-updated date changes, which is what the sitemap reports.

Report anything to info@edgeandpowder.com or through the contact form. A wrong figure in a size chart goes to the top of the list, because that is the kind of error that ends up on a child’s head.

How this content is produced

This site is researched and drafted with AI assistance and published under a named byline that takes responsibility for it. We state that plainly because being upfront about it is more defensible than being caught not saying it, and because it changes nothing about the standard the content is held to: every figure still has to come from a published source, and every source is linked.

What AI assistance does not do here is invent. The rules above about sourcing, about never claiming testing, and about never publishing a remembered price apply to every page regardless of how it was drafted.

Scope limits we hold to

There is gear we will not carry buy links for. Avalanche safety equipment is life-safety equipment that requires training to use, we have tested none of it, and a spec comparison would be actively dangerous. Anyone heading beyond resort boundaries needs formal avalanche education and in-person expert fitting, not a website. That boundary is stated in the section it applies to.
